Fashion: Is it a Statement or an Attitude?
I want to thank One 2 One Clothing for giving me a platform to use to discuss fashion. We are going to kick off with a discussion about, “What is fashion”? Is fashion an Attitude or a Statement?
One definition of fashion that I like; to give shape to: to make, construct, or create (something) usually with careful attention or using imagination and ingenuity.
The thought about Attitude is that attitude is an indication you have your mind made up about a particular thought or thing. If you are confident about your fashion style and how you feel about fashion, does your fashion style reflect your attitude? Is your fashion attitude the same every day? There are
two attitudes, good and bad, does your dress reflect both the good and bad, depending on your feeling? Can you have a bad fashion style to reflect that bad attitude? Is there such thing as a bad fashion style or do you use bad like in the seventies, which means it is good? How do you indicate a bad attitude then, with your fashion? Should you overlook the bad attitude and dress appropriately? Leaving the house in a suit and tie and a pair of sneakers reflects what thought or attitude? Was special attention given to the thought of wearing those sneakers instead of a pair of dress shoes? Could this attitude give the impression that you really do not care what others think or were you looking for comfort rather than correctness? Does your style also reflect the way you carry yourself, or your behavior? There is the thought that fashion is a feeling and is based on one’s emotion and mindset. Since we can experience countless emotions and cannot and should not dress according to our emotions, is there one factor in the way you dress that can define your attitude? Keep in mind the possibility of having an attitude that you just want to bring attention to yourself, which could be good or bad depending on your profession. There is also the possibility of the confident person being perceived as arrogant because of their sense of style and fashion, which is not usually look at me, but this is me and I have no message except I am confident and sure of myself. A confident fashion attitude does not look for affirmation.
If you are using fashion as a statement, what statement are you making? The statement you are making about your fashion style should be clear and a reflection of you. The way you live, think, work, play, and your relationships should all be on display in your fashion style. Let us say you are a meticulous person, which shows in your fashion style. You will not wear just any tie or shirt with any one of your suits. You will often make a serious attempt to coordinate that ensemble for that exactly right look, along with the right shoe, not sneaker. That is just one example of fashion being a statement. A confident individual will often display his/her confidence by putting the right combination of colors and patterns together in their ensemble to stand out as confident, but not look overdressed. The confidence to wear certain colors that may not be in your color wheel is a sign of confidence. The use of too many patterns is indicative of someone who is not sure of themself and is using fashion to hide their uncertainty. In terms of patterns, it seems that the style this year has multiple patterns. I have seen stripes and polka dots, and plaids combined. Striped shirts and a dot tie can be a good combination with the right size and width of the stripes in the shirt and the right size of the dots or ovals in the tie. And colors do come into play when mixing patterns. Sometimes this statement could mean I am trying this combination because it was on the mannequin at the shop, and this often is neither a confident nor insecure statement.
The bottom line is what statement are you trying to make about your fashion? Is it a positive or negative statement? Keep in mind the old saying the first impression is a lasting one, well that first impression is a statement.
I think of fashion being more of a statement. The first impression is a lasting impression, so your first impression is a statement about who you are with indication about the confidence in yourself
I agree it’s a statement.
Can you elaborate?
